Dan Carter (knitted) is back!

In time for the Semi-finals and complete with an Ouch on his leg!

The knitted graffiti on Devonport Wharf is still growing.

And here’s The Cloud! A really beautiful solution for ‘Party Central’, complete with cloud!

I tried to convince Kelvin that it was hyperbolic, it does have hyperbolic elements but he said ‘More like a squashed tube!’

This bag is SO easy to make, it would look good in many different colour combinations. Have a look.

Dan Carter (knitted) gone missing!

There’s a wonderful Knitted Graffiti exhibition on the handrail of the Devonport Wharf. It did have a knitted version of Dan Carter complete with black boxer shorts and NO shirt!!!! No wonder he was stolen! (For overseas readers; All Black first-five Dan Carter models a brand of underwear advertised on huge billboards in New Zealand)

“Exhibition creator Alison Milne says she knew she was taking a risk by displaying the art in a public place.” The exhibition is the work of the Knitty Graffiti group and has pieces sent over from various countries worldwide.

Continuing the unofficial rugby World Cup theme, one of the most interesting pieces echoes the call by the referee to the scrum – Touch, Pause, Engage, followed by Enjoy!

What a wonderful instruction for such a tactile craft exhibit!

I confess that I had a wry grin on my face when I noticed that the large banners, created by different artists both advertised ‘Knit’ – in crochet!!!!

Of course many of the pieces were in crochet.

But there was only one I could definitely identify as hyperbolic and of course it had a marine theme!

The hand rail at the Devonport Wharf ferry terminal is unusually touchable!

Alice Springs, Beanies and hyperbolic crochet

A little more to add to the post on Alice.

The beanie festival at Alice Springs was just wonderful fun. I really wished I’d had time to stay and take part. Of course I’d have crocheted a hyperbolic beanie! This was the closest I could find.

Everyone participated! And if you think that Alice Springs is too hot for woolen beanies – think again.. The nights were below zero!

I visited the craft workshop in another part of the Araluen Arts Centre. There to my surprise and excitement was textile artist Margaret Perkins teaching crochet. YES! She was teaching hyperbolic crochet and she had Daina Taimina’s book on hand.

Knitcetera at Orewa Arts

While I was away!

Seagardens went on display as part of Knitcetera at Orewa Estuary Arts. Jennifer Kipfer displayed the frames individually, spread among the other exhibits. This proved very successful, as was the whole concept of her exhibition. Note the comment below on her web site!

“Wednesday, July 13, 2011

This just in . . .

The visitor numbers to the Estuary Arts Centre for our exhibition were the highest since September 2009.  There were 2,323 people through the doors.  Well done us!”

Hi from Australia

Hi everyone,

Thought I’d disappeared? SO sorry but while I was in Oz and way outback, this website decided I’d forgotten my password. I’m now back in civilisation (i.e. Brisbane) and have been able to go online long enough to fix it.  More posts from me soon.

Kindest regards to all hyperbolic crocheters, Glenys Stace

I will post some more of the beanie festival shortly and yes, they were doing hyperbolic crochet at the Alice Springs Araluen Cultural Centre
