The knitted graffiti on Devonport Wharf is still growing.

I tried to convince Kelvin that it was hyperbolic, it does have hyperbolic elements but he said ‘More like a squashed tube!’

This bag is SO easy to make, it would look good in many different colour combinations. Have a look.

“Exhibition creator Alison Milne says she knew she was taking a risk by displaying the art in a public place.” The exhibition is the work of the Knitty Graffiti group and has pieces sent over from various countries worldwide.

Continuing the unofficial rugby World Cup theme, one of the most interesting pieces echoes the call by the referee to the scrum – Touch, Pause, Engage, followed by Enjoy!

What a wonderful instruction for such a tactile craft exhibit!

I confess that I had a wry grin on my face when I noticed that the large banners, created by different artists both advertised ‘Knit’ – in crochet!!!!

   Of course many of the pieces were in crochet.

      But there was only one I could definitely identify as hyperbolic and of course it had a marine theme!

The hand rail at the Devonport Wharf ferry terminal is unusually touchable!

The beanie festival at Alice Springs was just wonderful fun. I really wished I’d had time to stay and take part. Of course I’d have crocheted a hyperbolic beanie! This was the closest I could find.

    Everyone participated! And if you think that Alice Springs is too hot for woolen beanies – think again.. The nights were below zero!

I visited the craft workshop in another part of the Araluen Arts Centre. There to my surprise and excitement was textile artist Margaret Perkins teaching crochet. YES! She was teaching hyperbolic crochet and she had Daina Taimina’s book on hand.

Seagardens went on display as part of Knitcetera at Orewa Estuary Arts. Jennifer Kipfer displayed the frames individually, spread among the other exhibits. This proved very successful, as was the whole concept of her exhibition. Note the comment below on her web site!

Thought I’d disappeared? SO sorry but while I was in Oz and way outback, this website decided I’d forgotten my password. I’m now back in civilisation (i.e. Brisbane) and have been able to go online long enough to fix it.  More posts from me soon.

The Installation has developed considerably since the small beginnings at Auckland Museum. Thanks to Creative Rodney we now have specially designed display frames and contributions keep coming in!

If you can’t make it to Estuary Arts on Saturday, just come up some time over the next 2 months, bring your crochet hook and some yarn and sit a while in the gallery chatting and encouraging visitors to add to the communal crochet.

If you have made a hyperbolic creature for display, bring it in, or post it to Estuary Arts, Orewa, Attn. Jennifer Kipfer. Jennifer is also looking for volunteers to be in the gallery at popular times. If you are interested in volunteering, contact Jennifer.
